Philip Thomas Moody died Tuesday, October 26, 2021, in Titusville, Florida.
Philip was born, April 3, 1959, in Sacramento, California, to Walter Douglass Moody,
Sr., and Betty Ann Coats. He was raised in Titusville, as his father spent a career at
NASA Engineering.
Growing up in Titusville,
Philip was drawn to the space center, following his graduation from Titusville High School, he found a career at “the Cape.” Spending twenty-seven years of his life in the space industry he became a specialist in cryogenics. The impact of his career was noticed being recognized as a integral member of the Space Shuttle program, working for
Lockheed and then
United Space Alliance. Phil’s time and effort made a difference out there, so much so, his name memorized, being engraved at the Space Walk Hall of Fame Memorial Park part of the American Space Museum.
Philip married his high school sweetheart and lifelong love Faith Long Eckhardt. The two spending over twenty years together making a life lovingly raising their daughter,
Christa Fawn Moody. Throughout his life mostly before and then after his career Philip spent time at the beach and at pool halls.
Philip enjoyed billiards,
having legend ability, he couldn’t play without capturing the attention of those around him. The way he nonchalantly strolled around a pool table like his ability was no big deal, was classic Phil. Integrity being imperative Philips personality was “cool charisma” living a life as an example of humility and (usually anonymous) generosity. Philip was the guy you could depend on. His smile had a magnetic appeal and calming quality in any situation. Never admitting it Philip had the biggest heart. The kind of guy who would give anyone the shirt off his back if they needed it, sharing whatever he had with strangers just because. Those who he let get to know him saw thru the tough guy persona he proudly portrayed.
While playing loved pool he loved listening to classic rock. Music and knowledge about it was important, his favorites being the Rolling Stones, the Doors, The Who, Michael Jackson, Tom Petty,
Otis Redding and Bill Withers. In fact, his karaoke performances at Fathoms in Carrabelle were also legend.
After retiring, Philip found a new home in northwest Florida, living in Tallahassee, for a time, but eventually finding his last several years in coastal Carrabelle. This is where
he and his his best friend,
BluDog lived and loved. In Carrabelle he and Blu met and made many dear friends who were his extended family.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents and then brothers, Walter Douglas Moody, Jr., James Coats Moody, and recently by Faith.
He is survived by stepmother Elizabeth Moody, daughter Christa Fawn Moody,
granddaughter
Juliette Noelle Moody Merritt, grandson
Benjamin Moody Frallicciardi, and great granddaughter
Luna Marie Langendonk.
