Bennie Felton Greene was born on December 28, 1934 in Sumter, South Carolina to the late Samuel and Rosa Howard Green. He passed away on August 7, 2019 at Solaris Healthcare Center (Merritt Island, FL) amongst a dedicated and caring staff. He was educated in Sumter County School System, was a star football player, avid golfer and social butterfly with many talents. He loved to travel and was a self-made business owner cutting patterns for designers in the garment district in Los Angeles, California and absolutely loved the beach! He was a quiet, gentle person with an even temperament–listening first, before speaking. Always willing to offer sage advice without judgement and reminding people that your “glass is always half-full” even during troubling times.

His presence will be truly missed by his surviving children: son, Ronald B. Greene and daughter, Ursula R. Howard; Daughter-in-law (Sharon Greene); Son-in-law (Jermaine Howard); sister Susan (Robert) Carter; brother George Washington Green; grandchildren: Ledell, Erik, Sophia, Justin, Matthew and Sasha; great grandson Landon. He will also be missed by all his Cousins, Nephews, Nieces and a host of Friends in which he came in contact. He was preceded in death by Sisters: Annette Rebecca Cook (Green), Rosa Ross, Miriam (Dolly) Dixon, Sadie Gary, Helen Green Eaglin, Daisy Ann Vaz; Brothers: Robert Lee Green, Thomas Green, John Henry Green and Joseph Green.

You can rest now and take long walks on the beach. We Love you Pops!

We had three meetings before the ceremony even started to make sure that everything was going to be done properly and that we’re all on the same page. Island cremation arranged for the Marines to come and do a flag honor ceremony that was an excellent touch and made the whole ceremony very memorable. The funeral home was very clean and they even had masks and hand sanitizer set out. They helped setting up our food plus supplied some of their own. Very professional and highly recommended.

I had a Celebration of Life for my husband on his birthday last Friday.

Island Cremations helped me plan for the Funeral. They have been like family. I even brought my husband’s miniature poodle.

Dillon, Mike & Dawn helped me set up and clean up. We brought in food and drinks. I had a soft jazz CD playing in the rooms. The alter had my husband’s Dolphin Urn and flowers. His picture with him holding a 52 pound Dolphin was on a projector screen above the alter.

Pastor Babington did a wonderful sermon. The family & friends spoke of memorial times.

We all thank you for your kindness and warmth for this Celebration of Life for my husband.
