A private service will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at the Lighthouse Church in Glen Burnie, Maryland at 10 o’clock am In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to American Heart Association and American Liver Foundation.

On Sunday, September 27, 2020, William (Bill) Arden Smoot, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 59.

Bill was born on March 6, 1961 in Annapolis, MD to Jerome and Margaret (Parsons) Smoot. He received his AA degree in finance from the Anne Arundel Community College in 1994. On December 16, 2017, he married Jane Hewes Pettey. Bill was a lifelong Baltimore Orioles and Colts/Ravens fan and had a passion for golf, fishing, watching sports, especially horse racing. William loved music and had an uncanny ability to always know the composer of whatever song was being played. He was known for his compassionate spirit, his infectious smile, and his determination to problem solve for himself and others.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, Jerome. He is survived by his wife Jane. Bill also leaves behind his mother Margaret; two sons, Alex Catalina and Connor Smoot; two daughters, Sarah Catalina and Emily Catalina; two grandchildren, Ava and Jaxson; brothers Jerome, Jr., and Steven and sister, Lori Smoot Snyder.

Bill has eight surviving aunts and uncles plus their spouses, six nieces and nephews, six great nieces and nephews and 38 first cousins all of which make up a very close-knit and loving family.

We had three meetings before the ceremony even started to make sure that everything was going to be done properly and that we’re all on the same page. Island cremation arranged for the Marines to come and do a flag honor ceremony that was an excellent touch and made the whole ceremony very memorable. The funeral home was very clean and they even had masks and hand sanitizer set out. They helped setting up our food plus supplied some of their own. Very professional and highly recommended.

I had a Celebration of Life for my husband on his birthday last Friday.

Island Cremations helped me plan for the Funeral. They have been like family. I even brought my husband’s miniature poodle.

Dillon, Mike & Dawn helped me set up and clean up. We brought in food and drinks. I had a soft jazz CD playing in the rooms. The alter had my husband’s Dolphin Urn and flowers. His picture with him holding a 52 pound Dolphin was on a projector screen above the alter.

Pastor Babington did a wonderful sermon. The family & friends spoke of memorial times.

We all thank you for your kindness and warmth for this Celebration of Life for my husband.
