A small celebration of life will be held in Titusville, FL at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church on November 21, 2023 at 10:00 AM. There will also be a larger celebration of life in Millersville, MD at Our Lady of The Fields Catholic Church on December 7, 2023 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, Wes and the family request memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Wes Mahr. Wes chose this organization because he couldn’t bear the thought of children having to fight cancer as he had fought it.

Kelly, Mackenzie, Bailey and family, I am so very sorry to hear of Wes's passing. Wes was a genuinely good man. The best boss and mentor I ever had. I will always remember the great talks we had in his office (in the Command Center) sometimes about work, and sometimes about life. He always had good advice. He will be truly missed.

I did not know Wes as good as I wanted to..we moved into the neighborhood after his diagnosis so treatments took a lot of his time. But like me, he was a retired cop so that automatically made us brothers... We were family. The times I did stop to talk to Wes, he was always smiling. That big, sheepish grin is what I will remember about him. To Kelly and the girls, just know we are always near if needed.

We just had a wonderful experience at Island cremation with my father-in-law’s funeral. We had three meetings before the ceremony even started to make sure that everything was going to be done properly and that we’re all on the same page. Island cremation arranged for the Marines to come and do a flag honor ceremony that was an excellent touch and made the whole ceremony very memorable. The funeral home was very clean and they even had masks and hand sanitizer set out. They helped setting up our food plus supplied some of their own. Very professional and highly recommended.

I had a Celebration of Life for my husband on his birthday last Friday.

Island Cremations helped me plan for the Funeral. They have been like family. I even brought my husband’s miniature poodle.

Dillon, Mike & Dawn helped me set up and clean up. We brought in food and drinks. I had a soft jazz CD playing in the rooms. The alter had my husband’s Dolphin Urn and flowers. His picture with him holding a 52 pound Dolphin was on a projector screen above the alter.

Pastor Babington did a wonderful sermon. The family & friends spoke of memorial times.

We all thank you for your kindness and warmth for this Celebration of Life for my husband.
