Waddy James Alexander Blackmon, Jr., 77, of Merritt Island, FL, passed away at his home on February 25, 2023.

He was born in Columbia, SC on December 8, 1945. Waddy graduated from Dreher High School, attended the Citadel, and received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Augusta College.

Waddy retired from the Army as a major in 1987. He then worked at the Kennedy Space Center as a network manager until his second retirement.

Waddy was a proud parent and grandparent. He loved fishing, working on his boat and tinkering in his garage. He was a world class story teller and liked a bit of mischief from time to time.

Waddy was preceded in death by his parents Waddy James Alexander Blackmon Sr. and Idessa Newman and sisters Patricia Blackmon and Sally Blackmon. He is survived by his wife Mary Morris Blackmon; children Waddy James Alexander “Trey” Blackmon 3^rd (Cecilia), Shannon Blackmon Nord, Samuel Houck Pitts Blackmon (Katie), Christopher Michael Prindle (Brandy), Ronald Alvin Blackmon and Charly Erin Caulkins (Daniel); grandchildren Enrique Mezarina, Mary Addison Nord, Amelia Dessa Nord, Leah Presley Nord, Jax Samuel James Blackmon, Leo William Alexander Blackmon, Braelynn Rita Prindle, Justin Rawleigh Singleton, Ryan Olivia Caulkins and Landon Alexander Caulkins.

We had three meetings before the ceremony even started to make sure that everything was going to be done properly and that we’re all on the same page. Island cremation arranged for the Marines to come and do a flag honor ceremony that was an excellent touch and made the whole ceremony very memorable. The funeral home was very clean and they even had masks and hand sanitizer set out. They helped setting up our food plus supplied some of their own. Very professional and highly recommended.

I had a Celebration of Life for my husband on his birthday last Friday.

Island Cremations helped me plan for the Funeral. They have been like family. I even brought my husband’s miniature poodle.

Dillon, Mike & Dawn helped me set up and clean up. We brought in food and drinks. I had a soft jazz CD playing in the rooms. The alter had my husband’s Dolphin Urn and flowers. His picture with him holding a 52 pound Dolphin was on a projector screen above the alter.

Pastor Babington did a wonderful sermon. The family & friends spoke of memorial times.

We all thank you for your kindness and warmth for this Celebration of Life for my husband.
