MICHAEL HOGANCape CanaveralMichael Hogan, 74, died quietly and peacefully with his loved ones at his side, on January 5, 2017, atWuesthoff Brevard Hospice House in Rockledge.Born in Whittier, CA, Mike was a son of the late Moses B. and Mary M. Hogan. After graduation from highschool, he enlisted in the US Army where he spent three years in Germany during the Cold War as amissile specialist. Over the years he steadily worked his way up through various telecommunications andengineering positions while also furthering his education at night. He was a graduate of Pasadena, CA,City College and Barry University, Miami, FL, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business. Hewas also a licensed California Associate Realtor.During the 1970s he was a Telecommunications Group Supervisor in the Pasadena, CA, corporate officeof the Ralph M. Parsons Co, one of the largest engineering firms in the US. He moved into theAerospace Industry in the 1980s and was employed as an Associate Engineer working on the SpaceShuttle Program with Quintron Systems, Inc. in Santa Maria, CA. Mike relocated from California toFlorida in 1987 when he was offered a position as Program Planning Analyst with Lockheed Martin atKennedy Space Center. Throughout his career, Mike received numerous team and individualcommendations and awards, and during his employment in the 1990s with United Space Alliance at KSC,he was the recipient of the Space Flight Awareness Award, the highest award NASA gives for outstandingjob performance.A man of many interests and accomplishments, Mike was a professional landscaper who also enjoyedfarming and gardening, a bee keeper, a hunter and fisherman, a talented painter and illustrator, a self-taught musician on guitar and piano, and an amazing mechanic who could fix anything. He was aworship and song leader in his church, a Cub Scout leader, and a volunteer for both Neighborhood Watchand Meals-on-Wheels. And he loved riding motorcycles and racing his Buick Grand National at Bithlo!Mike is survived by Linda, his loving wife of 27 years, his daughter and son-in-law, Carrie and MarkSumner, of Palm Bay, FL, son Michael, California, sister and brother-in-law, Eileen and John Foster ofLake Forest, CA, brother, Ronald, and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife,Carolyn, brother Moses R. Hogan, and sister Nena Larson.The family extends deepest gratitude to the wonderful staff at Wuesthoff Hospice who cared for Mike withsuch compassion. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Island Cremations & Funeral Home,405 S. Courtenay Parkway, Merritt Island, FL (321-454-3331 / www.islandcremations.com) on Saturday,January 21, 2017. Calling hours are from 10-11 am with the service starting at 11, immediately followedby a reception.
