Martha Wood Lavender, 79 of Titusville, FL. died April 30th, 2021 at Cape Canaveral Hospital after a brief illness. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday May 15th at Truth Free Will Baptist Church 5311 Barna Ave. Titusville, FL.
Martha was born in Barwick, GA. on August 20th, 1941 to James Seymour Wood and Hazel Clifton Wood and moved to the Central Florida area as a young child. Martha was employed in the commercial insurance industry for over 30 years and after retiring was able to spend her days enjoying the outdoors and reading the books that she loved so much, her passion for reading was only surpassed by the love of her family, which was her most cherished achievement in life.
As she now sings with angels, her sweet spirit will be missed here on earth, but her legacy will live on through her children and grandchildren.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, James Seymour Wood and Hazel Wood McCluskey and her son, Daniel E Lavender.
She is survived by her two sons, James Lavender (Lee Boyett) of Seville, FL., Robert Lavender (Tanya Rigdon) of Christmas, FL. Her 2 brothers, James Wood (Willa) and Dale Wood (Flora) all of Titusville, FL. One sister, Pat Reed (Ron) of Satellite Beach, FL.; 6 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

My husband was an Army Veteran and they draped him with the American Flag as they were removing him from VITAS Hospice. We just had a wonderful experience at Island cremation with my father-in-law’s funeral. We had three meetings before the ceremony even started to make sure that everything was going to be done properly and that we’re all on the same page. Island cremation arranged for the Marines to come and do a flag honor ceremony that was an excellent touch and made the whole ceremony very memorable. The funeral home was very clean and they even had masks and hand sanitizer set out. They helped setting up our food plus supplied some of their own. Very professional and highly recommended.

I had a Celebration of Life for my husband on his birthday last Friday.

Island Cremations helped me plan for the Funeral. They have been like family. I even brought my husband’s miniature poodle.

Dillon, Mike & Dawn helped me set up and clean up. We brought in food and drinks. I had a soft jazz CD playing in the rooms. The alter had my husband’s Dolphin Urn and flowers. His picture with him holding a 52 pound Dolphin was on a projector screen above the alter.

Pastor Babington did a wonderful sermon. The family & friends spoke of memorial times.

We all thank you for your kindness and warmth for this Celebration of Life for my husband.
