Lorraine Crook was born January 9th, 1933, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada to her beloved parents Laurence and Ruth (Nyberg) Purdom. Lorraine was a gifted coloratura soprano and involved herself in music most places she lived. In Montreal she sang the lead roles in Pirates of Penzance, Gondoliers, and Yeomen of the Guard for the St Lambert Operatic Society, all musical comedies by Gilbert and Sullivan. She became director of music (three choirs) for the Bayberry United Church of Christ in Liverpool, NY. There she sang some beautiful religious music, including “O Holy Night” on Christmas Eve for many of her sixteen years tenure. During that time, Lorraine was a soloist for the Liverpool Community Chorus and also entertained at many family weddings and celebrations.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Robert Crook; four wonderful people (once-upon-a-time children): Carolyn and (Nelson) Symonds of Dexter NY and Ft Myers Beach, FL; Kevin and (Linda) Crook of Cooper City, FL; Geoff Crook and (Laura Vargas) of Malabar, FL and Elaine (and William) Toth of Palm Bay, FL. She also is survived by five grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

Lorraine journeyed to marry Bob in England, 1954, and resided on several Royal Air Force bases until they returned to Canada, and (Canadian Air Force) until early 1957. Then the family moved to Syracuse NY in 1968, and much later to Lorraine’s final dream destination, warm with palm trees, Florida of course.

Lorraine’s warmth and talent helped her make wonderful friendships during her lifetime, in many places, both near and far-away. She would wish to be remembered as a devoted Christian mother, loving wife, and steadfast friend.
