Laura B. Wissig
Laura Betsy Wissig, of Melbourne, Florida, passed gently away on May 17, 2024. She was 89 years old.
Daughter of Jewish refugees from Minsk and Kiev , the late Louis and Jean Hochman, “Lolly” was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 7, 1934, where she was raised along with her sister, Maxine. She attended, Jamaica High School and found “Harry”, her soul mate of over 70 years, at their neighborhood soda fountain. Married soon after, they traveled as a Navy family, living in Spokane WA, San Diego, CA, and Plattsburg, NY. Settling in Ledyard, CT, they shared many years raising four children and enjoying the lives of six grandchildren. She loved to capture family moments with photographs and share them with friends and relatives.
Being devoted to the very young, she was active with the Connecticut Foster Care system, caring for dozens of foster babies while raising her own children. Each child was imbued with love and hope until they found a forever home. She also proudly served the senior community as a Home Health Aide for many years.
Laura is survived by her beloved husband, Harold J. Wissig, and her four children Karen Tamul (Paul), Larry Wissig (Diana), Robin Harrington (Scott), and Joni Celmer (Robert). She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Sarah, Milo, Zeke, Louis, Lisa, Ruby; and one great granddaughter, Vera.
Lolly will be remembered as a beautiful, social spirit, who enjoyed chatting with people and hugging babies. She will be missed by those who loved her.
