Lawrence L. “Pepper” Proulx passed away early Wednesday morning, February 15, 2017, while in Cornerstone Hospice at Orlando Regional Hospital.  He was 92.  Pepper was born in Southbridge, MA on January 29, 1925.  Mr. Proulx was one of eight siblings (three brothers and five sisters), and all three brothers served during World War II.  He served in the US Navy.  On D-Day, he hit the beach in Normandy five times in 24 hours dropping troops from an LCI.  He married Barrie G. Brooks of Boston, MA on July 3, 1954 and they had three children.  He served as an elected official to the Southbridge, MA school board.  In 1968, Pepper moved his family to the Space Coast.

Mr. Proulx worked many years at the space center.  He first joined the Apollo-Saturn V program.  His daughter often proudly proclaims: “my daddy put man on the moon!”  He also participated in the Space Shuttle program from the very beginning and was Employee of the Month at KSC two times during the shuttle years.  He retired after 30 years in the space program.

Once retired, Pepper and Barrie loved long distance travel.  Their trips were varied: a bus trip through the western National Parks, many visits to their daughters in Colorado, cruises to Alaska and along the east coast, numerous LCI reunions nationwide, and to England and France for the D-Day 50th Anniversary.

Pepper was an avid reader.

Mr. Proulx is survived by his daughter Debra Watters (Paul) of Grand Junction, CO; son Robert Proulx of Orlando; son-in-law Ralph Tawney (Elinor) of Merritt Island; grandchildren Coryjean, Cami, Chelsea, Ralph, Jonathan, and Sara; great grandchildren Angus, Kylee and Hannah; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his daughter Elinor L. Tawney (June 30, 2010) and his beloved wife Barrie G. Proulx (June 24, 2016).
