James Winston Sommers, known to his loved ones as Jim, peacefully passed away on November 10, 2023, at his home in Merritt Island, FL, at the age of 86. Born on June 6, 1937, in Lamartine, WI, Jim was a beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Jim was a loving and devoted father who instilled in his children a strong work ethic and a love for learning. He emphasized the importance of education and made family vacations a special time for bonding. Known for his kind and helpful nature, Jim never had an unkind word to say about anyone and was always ready to offer his assistance.

In addition to his children, Heidi Jo Sommers, Jill Wilcox (Dave Wilcox), and Bradley Jon Sommers, Jim is survived by his grandchildren, Adam Wilcox (Savannah Wilcox), Coleman Wilcox, and Bailey Wilcox. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey James Sommers, his spouse, Dixie Sommers, and 8 of his 9 siblings.

Jim served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1959 and was proud of his military association. After his service, he pursued college on the GI Bill, graduating from the University of WI-Whitewater with a BA in Business and Business Education. Jim pursued a successful career as a business owner, owning ServiceMaster by Sommers from 1980 to 1996. Prior to that, he worked as a CPA at Main Express in Milwaukee, WI, and as a business school educator at Mid-State Technical College in Stevens Point, WI. More recently, Jim worked as a Medicare Advantage agent. Also, in his retirement, he pursued an AA degree in Music with emphasis on Organ playing from Brevard Community College.

A life-long Lutheran, Jim found solace and community in his faith. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he actively participated and found spiritual fulfillment.

Outside of his professional life, Jim had a passion for various hobbies. He enjoyed participating in bowling leagues at Shore Lanes and even achieved the remarkable feat of bowling a perfect game, scoring a 300. He served as the Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge and was a dedicated lifetime blood donor at One Blood. Additionally, Jim served as the Treasurer of every church he ever joined, demonstrating his commitment to his faith and community.
