James S. Weaver
James Sherman Weaver “Skip”, passed away on January 29,2022 at the St. Francis Reflection Life Stage Care Center in Merritt Island, FL. He was 80.
Skip was born in Quincy, MA on May 7, 1941 to James Thompson Weaver and Lois Calderwood. He was raised in Weymouth, MA and enjoyed the family seasonal residence on Long Island, ME.
Attending Weymouth High School, Skip excelled at sports and was awarded many trophies over the years in golf, bowling and softball. After Skip’s decision to enlist in the US Navy, he travelled the world for four years as a signalman aboard the USS Bristol and USS Maloy.
Growing up on the waters of Casco Bay ME, Skip worked piloting ferries for Casco Bay Lines in his teens. He married Judith Elder in 1961 and they settled down and started a family in Weymouth, MA. After he was discharged from the Navy, he was employed for 38 years by Massachusetts Electric as a lineman. During those years, he also bartended at South Shore Country Club in Hingham, MA and worked the bowling alley there.
Skip was a devoted sports fan and loved all of the New England teams, even after his retirement and move to Florida and became a snowbird. Spending summer months in Maine his whole life, he had many lifelong friends and family members who he spent quality time with. He loved his weekly OMP (Old Man Poker) get togethers, sitting on his front porch with family, traveling the Island looking for deer and watching the local lobster boats haul traps and race. Spending time on the F/V Carl and Co. was always a great day for Skip.
He loved his children and grandchildren and bragged about them regularly. He was predeceased by his parents and his beloved son James Robert Weaver (Jimbo). He was the loving father and father-in-law of Joanie Weaver of Merritt Island, FL and her companion Kevin Shea, Amy Weaver of Norton, MA and June Simmons and her husband Mark of Weymouth, MA. Cherished grandfather of Jocelyn, Jamie, Kelly, Jackson, Bonnie, Ashley and James.
