Elizabeth Mae Winters was born in the family home just outside Orangeville, Pennsylvania on May 5, 1925. The fourth child of six siblings she  had three older sisters and   two younger brothers.

Elizabeth, often called Betsy, spent her childhood on the family farm learning valuable lessons that would prepare her for a life of compassion and responsibility. She graduated from high school in 1943 as the salutatorian of her class. She   moved to Harrisburg, attended secretarial school at the Thompson Business Institute and went to work at the Harrisburg Hospital as a medical transcriptionist. The hospital environment made her realize her true calling was nursing, so she applied for, and received a scholarship from the Army Corps of Nurses.

In 1948 Betsy, graduated from the Harrisburg Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse and stayed at Harrisburg Hospital working with patients in the surgical and neuro-surgical wing of the hospital until 1970.

Elizabeth married Isaiah Lincoln Winters in 1948 and they were blessed with three children; Richard Allen, Patricia Mae, and Blake Earl in the next seven years.

Betsy, continued her nursing career at the Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Her work there was very challenging as this was a research hospital that continued to expand and she found herself working in various departments over the next 20 years. She retired in 1990 after forty-two years of serving as a compassionate and dedicated care giver.

In 1998 Betsy moved back to Pennsylvania to be closer to family and nursing school friends. She enjoyed travelling and attending alumni events. Seven years later health considerations led her to spend the winters in Florida with her daughter and the summers in Ohio with her son.

Blessed with ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, also affectionately known as Grandma Betsy and G.G. (Great-Grandma), was famous for her roast beef dinners, apple pies, applesauce, lemon bars, and amazing Christmas sand tart cookies.  The cookie jars and candy dishes were always full at Grandma Betsy’s house!

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Isaiah and her youngest son, Blake. Her youngest brother, Elmer is her only surviving sibling.
