Edward Dickinson

Cape Canaveral

Edward Dickinson, 80, of Cape Canaveral, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday November 26, 2016.   He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Paulette Dickinson, his son Stephen Dickinson of Richmond, Virginia, daughter Heather Dickinson and son-in-law Michael Schoessler of Portland, Oregon, daughter-in-law Ella Dickinson of Petersburg, VA, and his grandchildren Rory and Ben Dickinson and Luke and Finn Schoessler.  He is also survived by much beloved brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, and many treasured friends.

Ed was born in Spencer, Massachusetts and lived in Manchester, New Hampshire and York, Maine before moving to Florida.  He served his country in the Air Force Reserves, his community as a public high school history teacher at Alvirne High School for more than 30 years, and his family as a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather.  He was a member of the Congregational Church and enjoyed singing in the church choir.

Ed will be fondly remembered for his love of history, telling a good story, as a lifelong fan of Boston sports teams, cross country camping trips that lasted months at a time, surrounding himself with friends, always arriving early, boating the Atlantic coast, trying new beers, reading the newspaper, studying maps and giving directions, and his appreciation of a well tended garden.

In lieu of flowers, Ed would want you to honor his memory by anonymously doing a good deed for someone or making a donation to a charity supporting public education.
