Earnest “Ernie” L. Hughes

September 27, 1937 – August 7, 2017

Ernie Hughes passed away on August 7, 2017 in Merritt Island Florida, at the age of 79. Ernie was born on September 27, 1937 in Tarpon Springs Florida. He is survived by his daughters Robin Swaim (Carl Vitale) of Merritt Island FL, Sandi Vryhof (George) of Hobe Sound FL, Barbara Hughes of Merritt Island Fl, 5 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren, Sister Jeanette Hines of Jasper FL and dear friend Frances Leyva of Cocoa FL.

He was predeceased by Daughter Allison Moree (James Moree of Stuart FL). Father Rev Oneal Hughes, Mother Leila Knowles Hughes. Sister Dorothy Mixon and Brothers Raymond Oneal, Irving Wesley and Daniel Lamont Hughes.

“Everybody Loved Ernie”. He loved to make people laugh, he loved to dance, he loved to sing, he loved to cook and he loved all his girls.

We had three meetings before the ceremony even started to make sure that everything was going to be done properly and that we’re all on the same page. Island cremation arranged for the Marines to come and do a flag honor ceremony that was an excellent touch and made the whole ceremony very memorable. The funeral home was very clean and they even had masks and hand sanitizer set out. They helped setting up our food plus supplied some of their own. Very professional and highly recommended.

I had a Celebration of Life for my husband on his birthday last Friday.

Island Cremations helped me plan for the Funeral. They have been like family. I even brought my husband’s miniature poodle.

Dillon, Mike & Dawn helped me set up and clean up. We brought in food and drinks. I had a soft jazz CD playing in the rooms. The alter had my husband’s Dolphin Urn and flowers. His picture with him holding a 52 pound Dolphin was on a projector screen above the alter.

Pastor Babington did a wonderful sermon. The family & friends spoke of memorial times.

We all thank you for your kindness and warmth for this Celebration of Life for my husband.
