Dianne Lee Chapa, of Merritt Island, Florida, died Saturday after a long illness.

Born in Scranton, PA, on September 3, 1942, daughter of the late Joseph and Evelyn Clifford and sister of the late Robert Clifford. She was a graduate of West Scranton High School and wrote for the local newspaper. She was a member of Jackson St. Baptist Church before she was married. She was a wonderful gourmet cook and instructor and loved to travel and read mystery novels, as well as, spoiling her husband. She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi International, a non-academic sorority in Merritt Island, FL. She worked for Suitable Properties, Inc. of Merritt Island. She loved debating the political issues of the day. She had an amazing laugh and sense of humor that will be missed.

Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Thaddeus (Ted) Chapa of Merritt island, FL; daughter Donna Chapa Crowe (Judson) of Wilmington, NC; son Rev. Michael Chapa (Tonya) of Black Forest, CO; daughter Deborah Chapa Minnich (Michael) of Palm Coast, FL; 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren.

There will be a private family Celebration of Life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org).

My husband was an Army Veteran and they draped him with the American Flag as they were removing him from VITAS Hospice. We had three meetings before the ceremony even started to make sure that everything was going to be done properly and that we’re all on the same page. Island cremation arranged for the Marines to come and do a flag honor ceremony that was an excellent touch and made the whole ceremony very memorable. The funeral home was very clean and they even had masks and hand sanitizer set out. They helped setting up our food plus supplied some of their own. Very professional and highly recommended.

I had a Celebration of Life for my husband on his birthday last Friday.

Island Cremations helped me plan for the Funeral. They have been like family. I even brought my husband’s miniature poodle.

Dillon, Mike & Dawn helped me set up and clean up. We brought in food and drinks. I had a soft jazz CD playing in the rooms. The alter had my husband’s Dolphin Urn and flowers. His picture with him holding a 52 pound Dolphin was on a projector screen above the alter.

Pastor Babington did a wonderful sermon. The family & friends spoke of memorial times.

We all thank you for your kindness and warmth for this Celebration of Life for my husband.
