Devery Millard Grier was born in the town of Ithaca, NY, and his beautiful soul passed away unexpectedly on October 12, 2023.

Devery was raised in the picturesque village of Union Springs, NY by his loving mother Gloria, and his father Horace, a respected educator. His childhood home was filled with love, laughter, music, and security, and Devery often shared cherished memories of his youth and early adulthood in Upstate New York. He planned on returning to this special area he called “home” to retire.

Devery attended Cayuga County Community College, and thereafter enlisted in the United States Air Force. He completed his basic and occupational training in Colorado, and was subsequently stationed at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida. While at Patrick AFB, he worked as an inventory specialist and achieved the rank of Sergeant within four years. Devery was described as continuously demonstrating outstanding professional knowledge, initiative, and managerial abilities while performing the duties of multiple people. His bearing and behavior, both on and off duty, was noted as being of the highest quality. Devery’s exceptional service was recognized with the Air Force Training Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Organizational Excellence Award, Air Force Achievement Medal, and numerous Letters of Recognition.

After honorably serving in the Air Force, Devery continued his governmental career at the United States Postal Service in Orlando, FL. He was a dedicated employee of USPS for over three decades, where true to character, he consistently displayed the highest level of work ethic and was respected and admired by his colleagues.

Devery had a creative, playful spirit, and was a talented artist and musician. He enjoyed playing the guitar and piano, and listened to different music genres from across the globe. His artistic ability manifested in several ways, such as creating hand-crafted furniture, original tile work, chef-quality meals and desserts, and unique Halloween costumes to the delight of his daughters.

He was always willing to lend a helping hand, yet Devery never wanted to be a burden to others. He was a champion for what was right, and showed compassion to all living beings, including wounded animals he would often take in and nurse back to health.

He found happiness in the simple things, but Devery’s greatest joy in life by far was his immediate family, his “tribe”, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond. He is survived by his daughters Devin and Torin; his devoted partner, Christine; his mother Gloria and step-father Gene; his baby sister Shelby; as well as several extended family members and friends.

Devery is predeceased by, and now reunited with his hero and beloved father Horace Millard Grier.

Devery was a kind, sensitive, generous, man of integrity and he will forever be in our hearts.
