Master Electrician Dennis Carl Eklund’s love of life and family didn’t come to an end with his death. Dennis passed away unexpectedly at home on April 16, 2021 at the age of 65. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

He was born on August 21, 1955 in Lowell, Massachusetts to the late George P. Eklund and late Elizabeth Karoline Kugel Eklund. Growing up with many brothers and sisters he was raised in back central part of Lowell also known as “Prince Spaghetti-ville.” Dennis’ love for sports started at a young age playing baseball on a local little league teams. He was a graduate from the Lowell Trade School. Dennis enlisted into the National Guard where he served time during the Blizzard of 1978. He was very proud of the efforts he made to save people during this deadly storm by driving a tanker around to help rescue people who were trapped.

Dennis met the love of his life wife/best-friend, Johanne in 1983 at Andover Medical where they worked together. Dennis was the facility maintenance technician and Johanne worked on the production line. One day she said “Dennis, there’s a screw loose on the women’s bathroom door.” If you knew Dennis he was always fixing something and he’s always paid attention to details. This sparked an interest and Dennis responded to Johanne “You know my numbers in the phone book!”

They’ve been together for 37 years now, at the beginning of their relationship they migrated from Lowell, Massachusetts to Merritt Island, Florida where they built a wonderful life for themselves. They raised two beautiful, smart, and strong daughters Kaitlynn and Denise. Later on in life they raised two intelligent, strong, and loving sons Michael and Andrew. Most recently they were blessed to welcome their first grandchild Kai into the world. His household has always been filled with an enormous amount of love, laughter and light.

After moving too Florida he furthered his education attending Brevard Community College to obtain his Associates Degree. Spending most of his life as a licensed Master Electrician Dennis in the early 90’s had the opportunity to do electrical work for the American Embassy’s. He was sent to various countries around the world including Turkey, France, Amsterdam, Georgia, Russia and Madagascar. In addition he had the privilege to do various work at the historic Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. Over the past 25 years he was the proud business owner of D.C. Eklund Electric Inc.

The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Dennis. He had a very easy going demeanor about him and loved spending a quiet evening at home with his family. Dennis loved spending time in the kitchen, creating spectacular delicious meals for his family and friends, anyone that was lucky enough to enjoy one of his dishes would tell you it’s the best they ever had. As an avid sports fan and being born a new englander he embodied the true fan spirit as he enjoyed watching all Boston sports teams on the tv and cheering them on all the way from Florida.

Dennis had a very easy going demeanor, he was a man of few words, if you caught him on the right topic the conversation would just flow. His favorite hobbies included fishing, golfing, playing pool, helping assist his sons Michael and Andrews baseball teams over the years, and spending time with his new grandson Kai who always made him smile. He was a frequent patron at his favorite local restaurant Grills in Port Canaveral. Dennis was the true definition of a family man, a true friend, and overall kind-hearted and caring human being.

The unexpected loss of Dennis has left his family and friends in complete devastation. The family asks that you look within to remember the many happy memories you shared with their beloved Dennis. May those memories bring you comfort in your time of grief and sadness and fill you heart with joy. Dennis may no longer be physically with us but he will forever surround us in spirit.
