David “Dave” Frank Harmon

Dave Harmon passed away peacefully on May 7th 2016, at Holmes Heart Center in Melbourne, FL after a long battle with a heart condition acquired during his service in the Vietnam War. He was with his wife and daughter at the time of his passing and was 67 years old.

Dave was a very strong fighter and a survivor. As a disabled Army veteran, Dave had fought and survived the various complications of Agent Orange he had suffered from over many years.

David Frank Harmon was born in the town of Bridgeton, Maine on June 21st 1948. In June of 1966, Dave graduated from Fryeburg Academy and then enlisted in the US Army for the Vietnam War.  Dave served his country for 3 years in Vietnam as a Helicopter Crew Chief until he was honorably discharged.  He earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.

David met his wife Maxine in high school and married her in May of 1968. They had two children and lived in Sweden, Maine after his time in the service.   He relocated to Bradford, ME in 1987 and worked for GE in Bangor until his retirement in 2009.  Since retirement, he and his wife had spent their time with family and friends, travelling, and also as snowbirds, living in both Sanford, FL and Bradford, ME.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Joyce Harmon, his son David Frank Harmon Jr., brother in law David Ward, uncles Larry Bishop, Jerry Bishop, Clint Harmon, Junior Harmon, his aunt Grace Ash, his cousin John Harmon, his nephew Michael Ward as well as his dog and long-time companion “Lady”.

Dave is survived by: his wife of 48 years Maxine (Stuart) Harmon, of Rockledge, FL, his daughter Jill Harmon, and her partner Daniel Racine of Charlotte, NC, his grandson, Michael Starbard of Worcester, MA, his sister Elizabeth “Betsy” (Harmon) Noble of Westbrook, ME, his brother Milton “Mick” Harmon and his wife Jennifer of Augusta, ME, his brother and sister in laws Fredrick and Joanne Stuart of Palm Bay, FL, Joanne Ward of West Baldwin, ME and Robert and Nancy Willis of Houston, TX as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.  Dave also leaves behind his beloved dogs Tishy and Ziva.

At Dave’s request, there will be no formal services, but family and friends will gather for a remembrance of his life at the Bradford, Maine Town Hall on May 28th at 2 PM.  There will be a separate service in the Bridgeton ME area in June.  We invite all who knew Dave and would like to express their condolences to attend the remembrance.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your local Humane Society.
