Charles (Chuck) Richard DeVore passed away peacefully, rosary in hand, on Monday, August 26, 2019, at West Melbourne Health and Rehabilitation Center, Melbourne, Florida.  Chuck was quite ill for some time, but he fought to the end.

Chuck was born on June 17, 1934, in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, to proud parents Ralph and Mary (Lancy) DeVore.  He was the youngest of three children; brother Jack and sister Donna McCue, all of whom predeceased him.

Chuck graduated from Aliquippa High School in 1953 with a diploma and eight scholarship offers.  He decided on the full-ride football scholarship to the University of Miami in Florida.  He won all-County (Beaver) and all Western Pennsylvania honors while in high school and broke into the lineup several times as a UM freshman.

Chuck studied Business Administration at UM, but after sustaining several injuries throughout his years there, he decided to enter the business world as an entrepreneur.  This led to a whirlwind life for Chuck.  He owned and operated Wings ‘N Things in Miami; and held upper-management positions in Boca Raton, Tamarac, and Fort Lauderdale.  His employment with Church’s Fried Chicken took him to a number of major markets coast to coast and Canada.  Chuck was based in Chicago as a Division Manager and opened over 20 new stores in 1980.  Chuck also worked at Wendy’s in Columbus, Ohio; and Mr. Gatti’s Pizza in Austin, Texas.  Rounding out the list of restaurants is Wings ‘N Curls in Tamarac and Burger King, where he also travelled to Canada.  He named the Whopper Junior burger. Besides the food industry, Chuck was involved in sales, communications, and quality control, all of which were in upper-management positions in Dania and Sunrise.  After leaving South Florida, Chuck lived in Tamarac and Palm Bay, where he tried his hand in sales at Dillard’s.

An end to a very generous man who thought family was everything—he gave his family all he had.  It was important to Chuck to keep the family together.  He had a great sense of humor and loved to joke around; loved to travel—Alaska and Japan to name a few places; was a deeply devout Catholic; and was a very pleasant, generous, and giving person.  Football, golfing, and fishing were the loves of his life.  After leaving UM, he was often seen on the football field as a “sideline critic.”

Chuck is predeceased by his grandparents Anthony and Agatha Lancy; parents, brother, and sister; Aunt Ann (Lancy) and Uncle John Shimrak, their daughter Barbara Ann and her husband Steve Deliman, and son Dick Shimrak; Uncle Emil and Aunt Ollie (Sudik) Lancy; Aunt Helen (Lancy) and Uncle Alex Savukas; Aunt Millie (Lancy) and Uncle Walt Stimac; dear friends Jack Walsh and Rick Johnson.

He is survived by his nieces Peggy (McCue) Burger; Kathy (McCue) Robertson; great-niece Kim (Brian) Langley and great-great niece Nicole and great-great nephews Cody and Kyle; great-niece Carrie (David) Speidel and great-great niece Anna; cousins Sandra (Lancy) and Peter Lehr; Andrea (Lancy) and Dan Orchik; Len and Karen (Quillen) Lancy; Judy (Savukas) and Dave Cole; Ron Savukas; and Joyce (Stimac) and Jeff Rizer; Carl Stimac; and Robert (Peggy) Stimac.  Chuck also leaves behind 12 second and 11 third cousins.  Chuck is survived by his close friends Suzanne Walsh and Eric Parent who meant the world to him.
