Mrs. Carmela VonAtzingen (Tedesco Summers) passed

away peacefully on November 20, 2018 in Merritt Island.

Born and raised in New York, she moved to northern New

Jersey in her late teens where she lived until moving to

Florida in the late 70s.

She is preceded in death by Charles and Julia Tedesco

(parents), Donald VonAtzingen (husband) and Thomas J.

Summers, III (son).

Carmela was loving mother of five children; the late

Thomas J. Summers III (Bonnie), Sandra Feldhaus (Bill),

Leila Salmond (Greg), Judith Smith (Ken) and Tina

Williams (Craig). She was blessed numerous

grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great

grandchildren. Carmela is also survived by her brother,

Theodore Tedesco; sisters Toni Krinsky and Margaret

Slicker.

Carmela was an avid fan of Elvis and saw every one of his

movies. She had numerous pictures of him hung on the

walls in her room.

Carmela loved to sing; she sang in the choir at St.

Catherine’s of Bologna Catholic in Ringwood, NJ. After

moving to Cocoa, Florida, she worked at Merritt Island

Health and Rehab facility. After retiring, she and her

husband enjoyed traveling until his death in 1997.

A Church memorial followed by a graveside service will be

held at a later date.

Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of

Brevard County.

We had three meetings before the ceremony even started to make sure that everything was going to be done properly and that we’re all on the same page. Island cremation arranged for the Marines to come and do a flag honor ceremony that was an excellent touch and made the whole ceremony very memorable. The funeral home was very clean and they even had masks and hand sanitizer set out. They helped setting up our food plus supplied some of their own. Very professional and highly recommended.

I had a Celebration of Life for my husband on his birthday last Friday.

Island Cremations helped me plan for the Funeral. They have been like family. I even brought my husband’s miniature poodle.

Dillon, Mike & Dawn helped me set up and clean up. We brought in food and drinks. I had a soft jazz CD playing in the rooms. The alter had my husband’s Dolphin Urn and flowers. His picture with him holding a 52 pound Dolphin was on a projector screen above the alter.

Pastor Babington did a wonderful sermon. The family & friends spoke of memorial times.

We all thank you for your kindness and warmth for this Celebration of Life for my husband.
