Beverly Owens
1935 – 2023

Beverly Vaughn Owens, also known as “Aunt Bev” or “Grandy” passed away peacefully on September 29, 2023, at the age of 88 in Merritt Island, Florida. She was born on July 18, 1935, in Dayton, Pennsylvania, to the late Harold & Frances Umholtz.

Bev will be fondly remembered for her love of family and friends. Her happiest moments were when she was surrounded by loved ones, cooking for and entertaining each and every one. No one walking through her front door was a stranger. Bev welcomed everyone with open arms.

Bev had a career at the Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, where she dedicated her time and expertise to the EG&G company as an Administrative Assistant. Her passion for her work and contributions to the aerospace industry were of great importance to her and we are all very proud of her accomplishment.

Bev is survived by her daughter, Candy L. Kornotto of Waddell, AZ and her 2 sons Douglas J. Owens of Cocoa Beach, Florida, and Jeffrey C. Owens of Titusville, Florida. She is also survived by her brother, Jack Umholtz of Hinesville, GA, sister, Judy Pickel of Enola, PA and sister, Denise Founds of Edgewater, FL.

She was a proud grandmother, known as “Grandy” to her 7 grandchildren. Danielle Carter of Waddell, AZ , Casey Kornotto of Surprise, AZ, Jake Owens of Melbourne FL, Jill Youngkin of Cocoa Beach, FL and Beth Harding, Jason Owens, and Colleen Fredrickson of Titusville, FL. Bev also had 12 great grandchildren who will miss their “Grandy” immensely.

Bev was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Maj. James H. Owens of Merritt Island, Florida. They were always together and their love and companionship will forever be cherished by her family & friends.

Mrs. Owens will be buried alongside her husband, Maj. James H. Owens at Arlington National Cemetery and a service will be held to celebrate Bev’s life and honor her memory at the Arlington Chapel, this Spring.

The family has entrusted the caring professionals at Island Cremations, located in Merritt Island, Florida, to assist with the final arrangements.

We appreciate all your love and support during this very difficult time and in lieu of flowers or donations, we request that you take a moment to reflect on the cherished memories you shared with Bev and keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
