Bernard J. ScheerhornRockledge, FLBernard J. Scheerhorn, 92, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2014. He had been in the hospital for a stroke and had started rehabilitation. He was born January 27, 1922 in Holland, MI. In his youth he picked up mechanical skills working in his father’s auto repair shop and he enjoyed helping out on his uncle’s farm. He was in the Navy during WWII and served as an aviation machinist and gunner. He was stationed at Banana River Naval Air Station. He married Margaret Jane Dickinson of Fennville, MI in 1944. Employed by Boeing, he worked at Cape Canaveral AFS during the Space Program. Bernie was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman.Predeceased by his wife, he is survived by their three children, Ned Scheerhorn of Titusville, Nancy Wells of MI and Kim Scheerhorn of Cocoa; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and his loving companion, Marilyn Horsch.A gathering of family and friends in remembrance of Bernie will meet in the chapel at Island Cremations and Funeral Home, 405 S. Courtenay Pkwy, Merritt Island, on Wednesday, September 14, 2014 from 4:00-6:00 p.m.
