Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Alton (“Andy”) Burton Andrews, passed away in Melbourne, Florida on November 4, 2023, at age 95.
Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to become great among you, must be your servant.” Andy Andrews was a humble man who loved the Lord Christ with all his heart, mind and strength. He was great because he stood upright with integrity, a desire for excellence and because he cared for and served the needs of others. He loved his wife and family deeply and treasured his friends from Maine to Florida.
He was born in New London, Connecticut on June 18, 1928. His childhood home in Groton, Connecticut was located next to an athletic field, which instilled a lifelong passion for participating in and officiating sports. He was inducted into the Florida Officiating Hall of Fame. Andy was an army veteran, serving from 1951-1958, and where he was assigned to Germany to provide occupation protection. He returned to Atlanta, Georgia where he met the love of his life, Vivia (“Peanuts”) while they were both working at the Atlanta Athletic Club. It was a meeting that resulted in 68 years of marriage. For most of his career “Coach Andy” was the Athletic Director at Broward College, in Ft. Lauderdale and Cocoanut Creek, Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Vivia; children, Anda Ray (Mick) and Rock Andrews (Beverly); grandchildren, Meghan Johnson (David), Ashley Morgan (Shawn), Elizabeth Adamack, Joe Adamack (Alicia), preceded in death Vivia Violet ); great-grandchildren, Riley Johson and Sawyer Morgan.
