Roy Gerald Holmgren, 80, passed away peacefully at Vitas Hospice in Rockledge, Florida.
Roy was the eldest of three children of Harvey and Marge Holmgren. A lifelong resident of Hampton Bays for much of his life, he graduated from Hampton Bays High School before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany.
After returning to New York, Roy worked alongside his father at Rampasture Building Company and later with Southampton Township in the Parks Department. He was also a Fire Marshal and a part time seasonal officer for the same Township. Later on he worked for Rapid Recovery in Hampton Bays .He was also a dedicated member of the Hampton Bays Fire Department and a EMT for the Hampton Bays Ambulance Corps,where he proudly served his community.
Roy and his beloved wife, Ellen, made their home in Hampton Bays, where they raised their three daughters, Jennifer, Sherri and Jody. After his retirement from Rapid Recovery in 2014 .
Roy and Ellen retired to Palm Bay, Florida ,where they enjoyed being close to family and friends.
Roy will be remembered for his quiet strength, hard work, devotion to his family, and commitment to serving both his country and his community.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ellen; his daughters, Jennifer Cain ; husband Chris and granddaughter Olivia all of Wading River NY.; Sherri Blank and Jody Coutinho of Palm Bay FL.; his brother, Bob Holmgren; his sister, Linda Holmgren Borenstein; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Vita’s Hospice in Rockledge for the exceptional care and kindness shown to Roy during his final days.
