1945 – 2020
James J. Susko, Sr., aged 75, passed away on October 5, 2020 after a two-and-a-half-year battle with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), staying so positive throughout this disease. He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Marten Susko, three children – James Susko, Jr. (Karen), Michael Susko and Rachel Susko Frasca (Scott, Sr.), and four stepchildren, James DiIorio, Jr. (Maureen), Beth Ann Hoagland, John DiIorio (Christina) and Helen Witman (Charles IV), in addition to his brother, Gary Susko (Regina) and 15 grandchildren – Bella Susko, Scott Frasca,Jr., Gabrielle Frasca, Travis Frasca, Christopher Hoagland, Brian DiIorio (Ali), Patrick DiIorio, Charles Witman V, Kaitlyn Hoagland, Vincent DiIorio, Ashley Witman, Gwyne DiIorio, Jessica Witman, Ayden Witman and Juliet DiIorio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael Susko and Julianne Taniawski Susko, and his brother, Michael G. Susko.
Jim served in the US Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, spending one year there in 1966. He was your friendly mailman, working for the US Postal Service as a letter carrier for 35 years in Philadelphia, PA, retiring in 2003 due to a car accident. Fishing was a great hobby for him. He loved to sell at flea markets, especially Columbus Flea Market in Columbus, NJ and did so for many years. Jim was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan and overjoyed to witness them both win their championships!
He was a regular member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Penndel, PA for many years before moving to Merritt Island and joining Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Cocoa Beach, FL.
Jim and Helen moved permanently to Merritt Island, FL in 2019 to enjoy the over 55 community and the sunshine after the many years spent in FL as snowbirds.
