Merritt Island, FL – James Franklin “Frank” McGee, age 83, died Sunday, December 1, 2019 at La Casa Assisted Living Home. He is survived by his sister, Brenda Coltrane, two sons, Derek & David, three stepchildren, Elaine Hilton, Steven Burnett and Michael Burnett, two grandchildren, Mary Cobb & Lawton McGee, and seven step-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife June and his stepson Gary.
Frank was born on July 12, 1936 in Turkey, North Carolina the son of Clifton James McGee and Florence Isabel Hopkins. He married his wife of 45 years, June McGee from Birmingham, England on Sept 16, 1967 in San Diego, CA.
Frank joined the U.S. Navy in 1953 and served for 20 years as an aircraft mechanic and flight engineer. Frank is a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned several medals, including the National Defense Service Medal, China Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Air Force Commendation Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Viet Nam Service Medal, Viet Nam Campaign Medal and he received a letter of commendation from Lieutenant Commander W.S. Nelson for saving equipment from rolling off flight.
Frank retired from the Navy in 1973 with full honors and went on to work for Lockheed in Marietta, Ga where he was a representative for the C-130 military transport aircraft. While with Lockheed Frank was able to live and work in Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Morocco, Nigeria and Sudan.
After retiring from Lockheed Frank enjoyed spending his time gardening, fishing and wood working. Widowed in 2012 Frank moved from Powder Springs, Georgia to Palm Coast, FL and spent his remaining years with his family doing the things he loved.
