Shirley Tompkins of Cocoa, Florida, wife and mother, passed away in Rockledge, Florida on January 2, 2023, at the age of 91. She was born October 24, 1931 in Rochester, NY to John and Janice Mock. She lived her entire early life in Rochester. After graduating high school, she met and married Donald Tompkins, also of Rochester, NY. In 1958, they moved to Cocoa, Florida, so Don could pursue a career with the Space Industry. They lived in the same home their entire life in Cocoa, where they raised three children, and several beloved dogs. They were married 67 years prior to her Don’s passing.
Shirley was a homemaker, an avid reader, and was very creative artistically. She loved to do cross stitch, embroidery, sewing, and artwork. Many friends and family have been blessed to be gifted a piece of her handiwork.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Tompkins, her parents, John and Janice Mock, her sisters, Geraldine Seanor (Jack), and Jeanne Powers (David). She is survived by her children Kathleen Rohrbacher (Howard), Gary Tompkins (Barbara), and Sharon McArthur (Robert), seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
To honor her wishes, a private family service is planned. Arrangements are entrusted to Island Cremation, Courtenay Parkway, Merritt Island, FL. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to Hospice of St. Francis, Alzheimer’s Association, or the Brevard County Humane Society or local SPCA organizations.
