On Saturday, September 17, Sherman English, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and papa passed away. He was eighty-eight. Born and raised in Sanford, Florida to Joseph Edward English and Pauline Campbell-English, he enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 20. While serving as a medic, he met his wife Joan Brock at a skating rink in Patchogue, New York in 1957.
The following year, they were married in West Hampton, New York. During his 22 years serving, he had advanced medical training that allowed him to run emergency rooms and clinics. He was incredibly passionate and proud of his achievements in the field. As they started their family, the Englishes lived in many cities around the world. After retiring from the Air Force, he started a second career with the State of Florida Department of Corrections as a medical administrator. He retired from the state in 2001.
Sherm was a jovial character, often nicknamed “Trouble”. He was an avid fisherman and bowler, earning his last perfect score of 300 in bowling at the age of 80. Known for being a jokester with the firmest handshake around, he will be missed by his neighbors, friends, and “McDonalds Family” from his daily breakfast club.
He is survived by his wife Joan English, son Randy (Audrey), his daughter MaryAnn (Will), son Coates (Shea), 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and his dog Teddy.
