Roger Clifton “RC” Stone, Jr., age 98, lost his battle with old age and surrendered peacefully on July 14, 2022. Born on January 3, 1924 in Nansemond County, VA to Roger and Maggie Stone, he served as an Infantry Sergeant in North Africa and Italy during WWII and after being wounded, transferred to the Quartermaster Unit to complete his wartime service. After returning home, RC and Roger Sr. opened Stone’s Supermarket in Suffolk, VA and became known for their custom cut aged beef, country ham and pies. RC was predeceased by his wife of 75 years, Mildred Schadel Stone, his parents, Roger and Maggie Stone, Sr., and sister Margaret Jane Fanney. RC is survived by son Rex C. Stone and wife Deborah Henry, daughter, Julie Angel, grandson Chris Angel, nephews Joe Stone and Roger Fanney and wife Kim, and great granddaughter Morrie Mullen. Services will be conducted at a later date in Suffolk, VA

It is a nice atmosphere and very professional in how they run the business. They did not try to push me towards anything or any package. My husband was an Army Veteran and they draped him with the American Flag as they were removing him from VITAS Hospice. We just had a wonderful experience at Island cremation with my father-in-law’s funeral. We had three meetings before the ceremony even started to make sure that everything was going to be done properly and that we’re all on the same page. Island cremation arranged for the Marines to come and do a flag honor ceremony that was an excellent touch and made the whole ceremony very memorable. The funeral home was very clean and they even had masks and hand sanitizer set out. They helped setting up our food plus supplied some of their own. Very professional and highly recommended.

I had a Celebration of Life for my husband on his birthday last Friday.

Island Cremations helped me plan for the Funeral. They have been like family. I even brought my husband’s miniature poodle.

Dillon, Mike & Dawn helped me set up and clean up. We brought in food and drinks. I had a soft jazz CD playing in the rooms. The alter had my husband’s Dolphin Urn and flowers. His picture with him holding a 52 pound Dolphin was on a projector screen above the alter.

Pastor Babington did a wonderful sermon. The family & friends spoke of memorial times.

We all thank you for your kindness and warmth for this Celebration of Life for my husband.
