Robert William Young, 89 of Cocoa, Florida, passed away on Thursday, December 3rd, 2020. He was a former resident of Betterton, Maryland, and Delaware County, Pennsylvania.
Born on October 31, 1931 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Samuel and Margaret Young, Bob was the oldest of 5 children. He graduated from Marple Newtown High school in 1949. He was a star athlete known for his speed and agility, starring in football, basketball, and baseball – lettering in all three. He served in the Navy on the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea during the Korean War, from April 1951 to March 1955. Throughout his career, he worked for several heating and air conditioning companies, including McLaren, Madsen and Mackey, spending many years at the latter before retiring in 1994.
Bob and his wife Joan married in September 1973 and were happily married for 47 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four siblings, seven children, nineteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and thirteen nieces and nephews. His siblings include Janice Phillips, Thomas Young, Samuel Young Jr., and Margaret Slattery. His surviving children include Robert (Lyn) Young Jr. of Springfield, Pennsylvania, Donna (John) McFall of Cocoa, Florida, Kathy (Frank) Cini of Oxford, Pennsylvania, Bill (Linda) Young of Media, Pennsylvania, Jeffrey (Lisa) Kirby of Media, Pennsylvania, Lawrence (Tim) Kirby of Concordville, Pennsylvania and Beth Anne (Rob) Kindhart of Quincy, Illinois. His grandchildren, who loved him dearly, are Megan Kachel; Joshua, Olivia, Hunter, Hannah and Jenna Young; Victoria and Alexis Cini; Samantha Hempel and Nicholas Young; Gina Sexton; Gabrielle, Joseph, and Rachel Kirby; Vanessa Vonburg; Ashley McChristy; Brittany Gilker; Bridget Ormond; and Brooke Klauser. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Margaret and his twin daughters, Bonnie Klauser and Barbara Young.
He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all. He will be remembered for his sharp wit and humor, welcoming and accommodating hospitality, and love for his friends and family. Bob will be sorely missed by many!
