Beloved father and lifelong farmer, Rex L. Horein, left us on Fri. August 2, 2024 at the age of 85 at his home in Merritt Island Florida surrounded by his loving wife and children in his final moments. Born in march to John and Louise, Rex was a man of immense strength and wisdom, He cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. His passion for life will forever be remembered and his absence leaves a void in our hearts. Preceded in death by his brothers (Terry(Kay), Tom and Tim, Don. He is survived by his brother Dennis Horein (Karen), sisters in law (Billie Horein, Brenda Horein and Marlene Reilly) his wife of 65 years Julianne Horein, his children (Cristine Brock (Rick Brock), Vicki Donoghue (Dave Donoghue), Amy Garaycochea & Steven Horein) and grandchildren (Lexi Brock, Alex Garaycochea, Ella Garaycochea) who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest. Rex graduated Madison high school and was an active member of Zion UCC in Wakarusa. Rex was also a member of the sheet metal workers union.

My husband was an Army Veteran and they draped him with the American Flag as they were removing him from VITAS Hospice. We just had a wonderful experience at Island cremation with my father-in-law’s funeral. We had three meetings before the ceremony even started to make sure that everything was going to be done properly and that we’re all on the same page. Island cremation arranged for the Marines to come and do a flag honor ceremony that was an excellent touch and made the whole ceremony very memorable. The funeral home was very clean and they even had masks and hand sanitizer set out. They helped setting up our food plus supplied some of their own. Very professional and highly recommended.

I had a Celebration of Life for my husband on his birthday last Friday.

Island Cremations helped me plan for the Funeral. They have been like family. I even brought my husband’s miniature poodle.

Dillon, Mike & Dawn helped me set up and clean up. We brought in food and drinks. I had a soft jazz CD playing in the rooms. The alter had my husband’s Dolphin Urn and flowers. His picture with him holding a 52 pound Dolphin was on a projector screen above the alter.

Pastor Babington did a wonderful sermon. The family & friends spoke of memorial times.

We all thank you for your kindness and warmth for this Celebration of Life for my husband.
