Rafael Eduardo Hernandez went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, February 15, 2024, after 82 wonderful years of life surrounded by his loving family. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Carmen Cecilia, of 56 years, in eternal rest. Rafael was born on March 29, 1941, to proud parents Rafael and Paulina Hernandez in Bogota, Colombia. He married the love of his life in October of 1967 and settled down in Miami, Florida. Then in 1977, Rafael and Carmen moved to the Space Coast to raise their beautiful 3 girls in Merritt Island, Florida. He spent 35 years of his career supporting NASA Kennedy Space Center as an Optical Technician. He was known by this coworkers and friends as “One of a Kind.” Rafael, Rafico, Papi, Hermano, or Fico as his grandchildren called him, was the most kind, loving, giving, and helpful person anyone would ever meet. He will forever be known as one of the most genuine people ever to be in our lives. A devoted husband, father and “Fico” who also proudly served in the United States Air Force. As a proud husband and father, Rafael cherished his wife and daughters who brought him so much joy and happiness. His greatest joy was the love of his family. He leaves behind three daughters, Maria Lucia Wilson (Matthew), Dr. Nancy Hernandez-Salguero (Omar), and Susan Elizabeth Grenon (Michael) all of Merritt Island. “Fico” also leaves behind his adored grandchildren, Justin Wilson (Elizabeth) Lily, Emily Harris (Bruce), great grandbaby Cooper Harris, and Nico Wilson; Mikey, Marissa, and Daniela Grenon; and Isaac Salguero. He cherished every moment he spent with each of the grandkids dearly. Fico was a loving and giving grandfather and supported his grandchildren in everything they needed and will forever have a special place in each of their hearts.
