A celebration of life service will be held on September 5, 2021 at 2pm. It will be held at Calvary Baptist Church 2980 N Wickham Road Melbourne, FL 32935

Peter Portanova went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 28, 2021 in Melbourne, Florida.

Peter was born on November 26, 1937 in Floral Park, NY to Ralph and Celeste. He graduated from Adelphi University and spent most of his career working for Grumman Aerospace. He also served our country in the Army National Guard.

On October 28th, 1961 he married Phyllis Anne Jocher and they had 3 children who they raised in Northport, NY and their kids collectively gave them 12 grandchildren.

Phyllis preceded Peter in death on July 2, 2019.

He was blessed to find love again when he met Rickie Gallippi in 2020. They wed on April 3, 2021 and shared a brief but loving relationship.

Pete is survived by many friends and family including his wife Rickie, Son and Daughter in Law David and Wendy Portanova, Daughter and Son in Law Cara and Roger Wynn and Daughter and Son in Law Diane and Brett Harvey. He is also survived by his grandchildren Garrett 24, Taylor, 24, Jacob 23 and wife Neva 22 (expecting Pete’s first great grandchild 3/22), Caleb 22, Peter Jackson 21, Reagan 20, Noah 19, Zachary 18, Danielle 18, Jessica 16, Shelby 13 and Micah 10.

Pete dedicated his life to serving the Lord and loving his family. In his spare time he enjoyed playing and watching golf and he had an amazing singing voice that sounded like a combination Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett.

We had three meetings before the ceremony even started to make sure that everything was going to be done properly and that we’re all on the same page. Island cremation arranged for the Marines to come and do a flag honor ceremony that was an excellent touch and made the whole ceremony very memorable. The funeral home was very clean and they even had masks and hand sanitizer set out. They helped setting up our food plus supplied some of their own. Very professional and highly recommended.

I had a Celebration of Life for my husband on his birthday last Friday.

Island Cremations helped me plan for the Funeral. They have been like family. I even brought my husband’s miniature poodle.

Dillon, Mike & Dawn helped me set up and clean up. We brought in food and drinks. I had a soft jazz CD playing in the rooms. The alter had my husband’s Dolphin Urn and flowers. His picture with him holding a 52 pound Dolphin was on a projector screen above the alter.

Pastor Babington did a wonderful sermon. The family & friends spoke of memorial times.

We all thank you for your kindness and warmth for this Celebration of Life for my husband.
