Pamela Sawyer
November 6, 1945 —August 25, 2022

Pamela Rae Sawyer, 76, after a courageous battle with renal cancer, succumbed to her illness on August 25, 2022.
Pam was born to William (Mr. Bill) and Georgette (Ranea) Rae in Richmond, Virginia, on November 6, 1945. Her father’s business brought the family to Central Florida where Pam spent her childhood years, graduating from DeLand High School in 1964. She continued her education at Florida State University earning a degree in Elementary Education followed by a Master’s Degree from the University of Central Florida with a concentration in Counseling. She eventually settled in Brevard County where she worked as an educator for 37+ years including positions at Lewis Carroll, Fairglen and Suntree elementary schools. Though having a passion for working in the primary grades, her career included teaching at every grade level, serving as a school counselor, a primary specialist and curriculum coordinator. Her dedicated service earned her both school and area Teacher of the Year awards.
Pam’s greatest joy in life was her grandchildren. She also took great pleasure in traveling (especially Viking cruises), reading the latest best seller and, in retirement, her new hobby of quilting which provided the perfect outlet for her creativity and decorating skills. Pam’s boundless love and kindness will be missed and cherished by all who had the good fortune to call her family or friend.
Pam was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Ranea. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Tom Sawyer of Melbourne; sons Robbie Derfuss, Corey Derfuss (Kristina) and Derek Sawyer (Kristin); grandchildren Caleb ,Addison Michelle, Addison Grace, Chase and Brady; brother Bruce Rae and Sister Pat Rae Giumarra (Frank).
