Mary Elizabeth Jones, 82, Merritt Island, Florida lost her short battle with cancer on Monday, October 25, 2021.

Mary was born in Stilwell, Oklahoma on March 12, 1939. She resided in Oklahoma until 1965 when she and her husband Glen moved to Merritt Island, Florida to raise their children and join the team at the Kennedy Space Center. Mary loved supporting youth activities and could often be found at the football, softball, and little league baseball field coaching or volunteering in an administrative capacity. Her love of life lead her to be a strong parental figure to many of the youth who grew up in Merritt Island. Mary and Glen were part owners of Fred’s Handyman, a long-standing Merritt Island hardware store. She was also an entrepreneur and investor owning several commercial and residential properties. Mary was a successful seamstress who made curtains for Rockledge Regional Hospital and too many prom and bridesmaid dresses to count. She loved to travel and research family ancestry but took the most pride in watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow and thrive. Mary never turned down an opportunity to babysit “her babies” (grandchildren and great-grandchildren) and is remembered fondly for her love of honey buns, banging pots and pans on New Year’s Eve, and watching reality TV especially shows like The Bachelor and Judge Judy.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends who loved her so much. Mary was predeceased by her husband Glen Jones and her daughter Pamela Shaw, her parents and eight siblings (Bud Young, Carlos Adkins, Irene Arnold, Jane Horn, Laura Bell Walker, Barbara Knight, Robert Young, and Buster Young). She is survived by her son Tommy Ray Cook (Karen) and daughter Linda Richards (Rusty), her son in law Mike Shaw, her grandchildren Michael Sheppard (Melody), Melissa Cook Harley (Ken), Stacey Cook Wetherington (Josh), Jacob Cook (Tiffany Thibodeau), Edwin Richards (Liddie), Russel Richards and Peter Richards, and her beloved great-grandchildren Aiden and Annaliese (Michael), Clayton and Alyssa (Melissa), Riley, Lily, and Laine (Stacey), Thea (Jacob), Marissa, Mallory, and Micha (Edwin), Natalie and Jace (Peter), and many other extended friends and family members that called her Granny.
