Marvin L. Benney, age 89, passed away on October 9, 2024, in Merritt Island, FL.
Born on February 3, 1935, to Medford and Lillie Benney in Centreville, MD. Marvin led a fulfilling life marked by devotion to his family and a passion for the great outdoors. Marvin graduated from Centreville High School and shortly thereafter served his country in the US Army from 1953 to 1957. His time in the military was followed by a diverse career where he worked as a waterman, farm manager and carpenter, skills that he cherished, and which kept him close to nature. A man who embraced the essence of family, Marvin was a devoted son, husband, and father. His life was enriched by his late wife, Phyllis Benney, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.
Marvin survives by his children, Cindy Mansfield (Pete), Michael Benney (Marcia) and Steven Benney; Grandchildren Ashley Scott (Josh), Fletcher Benney, Rachel Mansfield, and Dawn Mansfield; and great-grandchildren Hayleigh, Alana, Skyler, and Joshua. His extended family includes his beloved cousin (and brother from another mother) Billy Benney and nieces Peggy Stevens and Faye Fraley. His sister, Frances Stevens, brother Medford Benney and grandson Brian Jewell preceded him in death.
Marvin’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, and collecting seashells. His love for storytelling was well known among his family and friends, making him a gifted conversationalist who could captivate any audience with tales from his life.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor Marvin’s legacy and his deep love for the Eastern Shore of Maryland. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him as a caring family man and a spirited storyteller.
