MARIA S. RODRIGUEZ

JUNE 25, 1933 – JULY 27,2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved grandmother, MARIA S. RODRIGUEZ transitioned to her rest peacefully with family by her side on July 27,2024. She was 91.

Born on June 25, 1933 in Arroyo, Puerto Rico, Maria lived a full and vibrant life and was a lifetime resident of Guayama, Puerto Rico. She was the loving mother who raised a family of 4 children who will forever cherish her memory.

Maria was a devoted homemaker, who took great pride in caring for her multiple families in Puerto Rico. She was an exceptional cook and known for her delicious meals.Maria loved dancing, especially to merengue music and her smile would light up a room.

Maria was a woman of great faith, who attended the Catholic Church for many years. She was a kind and generous soul who loved God. Her family and friends will remember her for her warm smile, her gentle nature, and her unwavering love.

Maria is survived by her 4 children: one daughter Mary Torres, and three sons Joseph(Arsenia) Torres, Jorge Torres, AbdulHakim(Khadijah) Ubaydah. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Jennifer Torres, Heather(Shaw) Daley, Richard Torres, Christopher(Heather) Torres, Jessica(Elvis) Torres, Jason(Sherrel) Torres, Jamie(Mauricio) Castellón , Matthew Torres, Aishah(Aaron) McTell, Joshua Torres(deceased), 19 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-children and several nieces and nephews.

In her 91 years of life she was a great mother and loving grandmother that will be truly missed.

My husband was an Army Veteran and they draped him with the American Flag as they were removing him from VITAS Hospice. We had three meetings before the ceremony even started to make sure that everything was going to be done properly and that we’re all on the same page. Island cremation arranged for the Marines to come and do a flag honor ceremony that was an excellent touch and made the whole ceremony very memorable. The funeral home was very clean and they even had masks and hand sanitizer set out. They helped setting up our food plus supplied some of their own. Very professional and highly recommended.

I had a Celebration of Life for my husband on his birthday last Friday.

Island Cremations helped me plan for the Funeral. They have been like family. I even brought my husband’s miniature poodle.

Dillon, Mike & Dawn helped me set up and clean up. We brought in food and drinks. I had a soft jazz CD playing in the rooms. The alter had my husband’s Dolphin Urn and flowers. His picture with him holding a 52 pound Dolphin was on a projector screen above the alter.

Pastor Babington did a wonderful sermon. The family & friends spoke of memorial times.

We all thank you for your kindness and warmth for this Celebration of Life for my husband.
