Lillian Marie (Melka) Gasis, age 85, departed from this world on January 27, 2024. Lillian was just shy of her 86th birthday. Lillian was born and raised in Brookfield, Illinois. She and her family resided near the Brookfield Zoo which became a favorite of her daughters to visit.

Lillian is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Josephine Melka, and her brother, Frank Melka. Lillian left behind three daughters: Elizabeth Simpkins married to Patrick Simpkins of Merritt Island, Florida. Kathryn Minute married to Stephen Minute of Merritt Island, Florida. Lisa Giese of Albuquerque. Lillian was blessed to have five bright and beautiful grandsons: Dainius Simpkins, Anthony Minute, William Minute, Alex Giese and Max Giese. Lillian is also survived by her brother, Robert Melka and his wife, Lee Melka.

Lillian received her Bachelor’s Degree in Dress Design from The Art Institute of Chicago. She was awarded a full ride scholarship to attend, and she would say so with pride. Lillian became a sculptor midlife, and enjoyed socializing with other local artists in Albuquerque, New Mexico where she lived for over three decades. Lillian had a quick mind and a wicked sense of humor which those around her enjoyed. Lillian enjoyed eating chocolate chip ice cream, watching old movies, and arranging freshly cut flowers.
