Albert “Lee” Knight, Jr. unexpectedly passed away in Merritt Island, FL on 10/30/2024 at the age of 57.
Lee was born 9/27/1967 in Tampa, FL to Albert Lee Knight, Sr. and Freida (Stein) Knight. Lee is survived
by his wife Krista (Hawley) Knight, sons Tyler and Noah, sister Holley Troxel (Keith), sister-in-law Suzette
Knight and many nieces/nephews and great nieces/nephews. Lee is preceded in death by his parents
(Albert and Frieda) and his brother John.
Lee graduated from H.B. Plant High school and United Electronics Institute in Tampa.
Lee then began his long and storied career with the space shuttle payloads and space launches in 1990,
beginning with McDonnell Douglas, Boeing and lastly with United Launch Alliance (ULA).
Over the last few years Lee could be seen and heard up in the announcer’s booth at the Merritt Island
High School Baseball field. His happy place was always cheering on the Mustangs, their opponents, and
entertaining the fans. His sense of humor was always apparent and appreciated. Lee will always be
known as the voice of Mustang Baseball as it was so recognizable. He truly was an icon at the ballpark
If Lee was not in the announcing booth, you could find him working on the field to help the program and
facility. Previously, Lee served on the Merritt Island Little League Baseball Board and he was an assistant coach for many youth baseball teams. Lee was also a die-hard Gator fan and an inspiration to so many young players as their Coach Lee. He thoroughly loved his time on the field with all kids and it showed with his
compassion and teaching the love of the game to each player.
Lee left his mark on everyone he met and loved being surrounded by family and friends. He never met a
stranger and made everyone feel like he was their best friend. His love for life was immeasurable and
he will be missed by many. If asked, Lee would say his greatest accomplishment was being a father to
his two sons Tyler and Noah. The boys loved their father very much and looked up to him as a hard
worker, a role model, and their hero. We know Lee is up there announcing the big games in his
Field of Dreams.
