Hamilton, Layne L.
January 16, 1958-July 31, 2024. Layne was born in Fort Pierce, Florida. She attended Fort Pierce High School, University of Florida, and Louisiana State University. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Audrey Hamilton and her husband Jim Goodwin. Layne’s career with US Fish and Wildlife Service spanned over 37 years beginning in 1986. She worked as a Wildlife Management Specialist for the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Refuge Management Trainee at Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge, Gautier, MS; Assistant Refuge Manager at Catahoula National Wildlife Refuge in Rhinehart, LA; Refuge Manager at Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge, Hilton Head, S.C.; Deputy Refuge Manager at “Ding Darling” National Wildlife Refuge, Sanibel, FL; Wildlife Refuge Manager at Southwest Florida Gulf Coast Refuges (Florida Panther & Ten Thousand Islands NWR); and Wildlife Refuge Manager at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, Titusville, FL. for 14 years until her retirement in 2021.
A memorial service followed by a Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday September 14, in St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church of Titusville, 1255 Knox McRae Dr., Titusville, Fl 32780. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Layne Hamilton’s memory to the Merritt Island Wildlife Association, P.O. Box 2683, Titusville, FL. 32781.
