October 5, 1932 - March 5, 2021

U.S. Veteran

Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date.

John Daniel Flick, 88, died on Friday, March 5, 2021, in Melbourne, Florida.
John (Sonny) was born on October 5,1932 in Chicago, Illinois to Mary Margaret and John Thomas Flick. He graduated from Naperville Community High School. John married Diane Wilk on September 10, 1955. They were blessed with four children; Jodee, John, Jeanine and Jannice. They moved into their first house in Westmont, Illinois in 1962.
John worked at Pepperidge Farm where he enjoyed baking their breads. Next John joined the construction industry as a cement finisher which led him to start his own business, Flick’s Concrete. Later, he continued his entrepreneurship in a different direction. Using his previous cooking experience and friendly, social nature, he opened his restaurant called John’s Cove where he could meet and greet people all day. He eventually returned to construction work. John remarried in 1988 to Julie Tomei. Having always loved Florida, he retired to Barefoot Bay, Florida in 2011 with his wife Julie, so he could continue his love affair with the ocean.
John loved God and his family and they him. His dogs; Samson, Snowball and Blitzen were his loving companions. The church was an important part of his life where he faithfully attended and regularly volunteered because his love for Jesus and service to the Lord was part of what made him the amazing Christian man he is. He enjoyed playing 12” and 16” ball on adult teams and with family/friends on weekends. He loved talking sports with his Grandson every week and was a long-time fan of the Miami Dolphins and Green Bay Packers. He was always ready for a good game of horseshoes, putting any takers in their place. For all those that knew or met John, he was a vibrant, energetic, goofy, likable, good man who could spark a conversation with anyone he came in contact with and was always ready to help. He loved life, always doing something, he just couldn’t sit it out.
John is survived by his wife Julie (Tomei) Flick, three children; Jodee (Flick) Steger, John William Flick, Jeanine (Dave) Keenlance; six grandchildren – Rabecca, Jessica (Craig) Jacob, David, Nathan, Aleea; six great grandchildren – Josalyn, Kylee, Kaiden, CamRon, Olivia, Ciara; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Margaret Flick; daughter, Jannice Flick, Son in law Ron Steger; sisters, Rosemary Schmidt and Ruth Lopez; brothers, Lloyd Flick, Al Berntson, and Dave Berntson.
