James Gerald Van Ausdall, Jr., 87, of Merritt Island, Florida and Richmond, Virginia, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 21, 2023, in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Jerry, as he was known to his family, friends and business associates was the son of the late James Gerald Van Ausdall, Sr. and Beulah Windley VanAusdall. Survivors include his loving and faithful wife of 58 years, Rebecca Grissom Van Ausdall, daughter Kathryn Van Ausdall, son James (Jay) Van Ausdall III and wife Heather, grandson Thomas James (T.J.) Van Ausdall-Conlin, brother Richard Van Ausdall of Williamsburg, Virginia, half-sister Vi Bitwork and husband Terry, and half-brother Jack Van Ausdall and wife Janet.
Jerry was born in Norfolk, Virginia but grew up on Pleasant Walk Dairy Farm in Williamsburg, Virginia. He graduated from Walsingham Academy, one of 8 in his graduating class. Jerry enlisted in the US Navy and was active duty during the end of the Korean War, flying on a P2 Neptune. After an honorable discharge from the US Navy, he attended RPI, now VCU in Richmond, Virginia.
In the early 70’s, Jerry along with his close friend and business partner, Wayne Light, founded Light & Van Ausdall Inc., one of Richmond’s most successful business brokerage companies. Jerry’s passion and natural talent for building connections between buyers and sellers brought him tremendous joy and success during a career that spanned over 55 years. After moving to central Florida in 2006, he continued to successfully practice business brokerage until November 2022, at age 87.
Jerry will forever be remembered as a devout man of faith, a loving and faithful husband, father and grandfather. His faith and values will serve as a beacon of direction for generations to come.
