Jerrel Wendel Hursey, Jr., age 82, of Merritt Island, Florida passed away on August 30, 2023. He was born on February 5, 1941, in Dallas, Texas to the late Jerrel and Hazel Hursey. Jerrel is preceded in death by his sister Shirley Hursey. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Barbara. He is also survived by his son, Jason (Julie) Hursey: grandchildren Haley (Austin) Painter, and Garrett Hursey. Stepchildren: Sheri (Bill) Rayburn, Michael Miller, Stacey (Richard) Quintana, Jennifer (Corey) O’Hern, and Courtney (Kevin) Finney. Step-grandchildren: Tracey Rayburn, Chad, Connor, Meagan, and Joshua Quintana, Eli and Elizabeth O’Hern, and Miller and Easton Finney. His brother, Don (Carolyn) Hursey, sister Shirley Hursey (deceased).

He graduated from Paxon High School in 1959 and was later drafted in the United States Army. After his service ended, he worked several years in the transportation industry before working for the United States Postal Service. Jerrel loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed working in his yard, sitting on his front porch, admiring his handiwork, and visiting with his neighbors.

A celebration of Jerrel’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at 1:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Merritt Island 140 Magnolia Ave with Pastor Titus Green officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Francis Reflections in Brevard County, FL.
