JB “Jack” Bashlor, 88, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2023.
He is survived by his daughters, Robin (Mike) Ryder, Kelly Thomas, and Sami (Mike) Bolger; a sister, Kerry Dixon and a brother, Mackey Bashlor; grandchildren Cessie (Frazier) Chiles, Meg Ryder, Joel Thomas, Alex Bolger and Anna Bolger as well as 2 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Helen Bashlor; a grandchild, Oliver Bolger and 2 sisters, Elizabeth Easton and Carole Kelly.
Jack was born in Enid Oklahoma on July 20, 1934. He grew up in Georgia as well as Kansas City, Kansas. He joined the Navy and travelled the world. His time in the Navy greatly impacted his life and his experiences there served as a fount of stories for his family and close friends. Soon thereafter, he started college at University of Kansas and married Mary Helen. He moved to Titusville, Florida in 1966 to begin his long career at Rockwell International at Kennedy Space Center as an accomplished electrical engineer on both the Apollo and Space Shuttle programs. He won numerous awards for his contributions to both programs, most notably for his work on fuel cells.
Jack was a devoted husband, father and especially enjoyed being a grandfather. After his retirement he maintained his inquiring mind, enjoying keeping up to date on the latest news as well as the newest technologies. He also developed a passion for woodworking and thrived on participating in his grandchildren’s lives and activities. His loving, protective and inquisitive spirit will live on in the many lives he touched.
Funeral arrangements are being entrusted to Island Cremation in Merritt Island. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery.
