It is with a heavy heart that we are sharing the death of James M. Michener (AKA Moose) on President’s
Day in Titusville, Florida. He lost his battle with cancer at home, in the comfort and care of his best
friend and partner of 30 years, Cathy Elting. Born in Libby, Montana June 14th Flags Day, in 1955. Jimmy
grew up in Vernonia, Oregon with his parents Delmar Michener and Violet Michener (Martin), raised as
an only child. His first language was American Sign Language (ASL) as both parents were deaf mutes. He
spent most of his life as a logger in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest. He was an artist with a gift
of recreating images of the NW mountains, his true love and home. He never had children of his own,
but considered Cathy’s children Amanda, Daniel and Ashley his family. He led an amazing life,
harmonica player, lover of music, friend to humanity and animals. He was always willing to lend a hand
if someone was in need. Jim was recognized as a survivor and was quite the storyteller. He will be
greatly missed, never forgotten, and always cherished.
