Hilda Marie (Knopp) Dunn passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday September 21st, 2022 at the age of 87. Born on December 24th, 1934 in Deale, Maryland, she was the loving wife of Donald P. Dunn for over 67 years. She left us to be with her Donniee who had just passed away on September 15th, 2022.

She is survived by her sister Mary Lorraine (Sally) (Knopp) Marshall, children Mark Dunn and wife Becky of Huntingtown MD, Molly Ryan and husband Kenny of Bowie MD, and Niles Dunn of Cape Canaveral FL; grandchildren Bart Dunn and wife Katie of Jacksonville FL, Jake Dunn of Huntingtown MD, Alison Ryan and fiancée Brian Moss of Stevensville MD, and Chelsea Ryan of Potomac MD; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Dunn, her parents Alrano and Mary Alice (Rogers) Knopp and her three brothers Virgil Knopp, Gordon (Poochie) Knopp, and Russell Knopp.

Hilda was a wonderful homemaker, raising her three children while Donniee finished his engineering degree at the University of Miami and worked at the Federal Aviation Administration until his retirement. After living briefly in Miami, FL, Killeen TX, and Oklahoma City, OK, they settled in Bowie, MD to raise their family. Hilda was involved in many school PTAs, Boys and Girls Clubs, Boy Scouts, and many other school and extra curricular activities the kids were involved in during their childhood years.

After Donniee’s retirement they lived aboard their Morgan Out Island 51’ ketch ‘Sugar n Spice’ for many years while sailing up and down the East Coast offshore and via the inland waterway. They eventually settled on land in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

Hilda enjoyed attending the Church of our Savior in Cocoa Beach, FL and could always be relied upon to bake something delicious whenever called upon to help out with various functions and services. She also had a lively group of ladies she played Bunco with each month as well as attending weekly bingos at the DAV in Cape Canaveral and the Moose Lodge on Merritt Island. She also loved watching and rooting for her Tampa Bay Rays.

Hilda was a wonderful cook and had quite a collection of cookbooks and recipes. The neighborhood kids could always looked forward to having some yummy homemade chocolate chip cookies whenever visiting the Dunn residence in Bowie. She loved cooking and trying new recipes and you could tell she was up to something in the kitchen the moment you walked in the door and caught a whiff of something tasty going on.

In addition to being a wonderful cook, Hilda was also a lifelong lover of all sorts of arts & crafts. She enjoyed painting festive ceramics and creating handmade ornaments around Christmastime, and also enjoyed sewing and embroidery projects.

We love her and will miss her every day, but we know she’s now at peace with her loving husband Donniee.
