Geneva Martha Gillespie was born in Davy, West Virginia on November 11, 1935 to Albert and Julia Justice. She was one of 18 children. Geneva eventually moved to Bluefield, Virginia when she was 18 years old. She met Thomas Gillespie in 1954 outside a Movie Theatre in Tazewell, Virginia. They were wed on January 22, 1955. Geneva and Thomas lived on a small farm and had five children together. Geneva was a wife, a mother, an avid gardener, a great cook, loved animals, and liked to embroider by hand.
In 1959, she became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Her dedication and love for her God, Jehovah, led her to be a bold and courageous preacher. She walked everywhere around the mountains, with her two small children at the time, to preach in Bluefield. She devoted much of her free time to helping others learn about Jehovah and the wonderful promises that His Kingdom would bring, including living forever on earth in paradise and the resurrection of the dead. Geneva and Tom moved from Virginia to Merritt Island, Florida in 2006 and continued their faithful service in the local congregation while gaining many more new friends and adopted family members along the way.
Geneva passed in peace and faithfully on January 20, 2023. She now waits for Jehovah, the God of all peace and comfort, to call her back to life in the Paradise earth she so whole-heartedly believed in.
She is survived by her husband Thomas and all their children:
Buddy Arnold Gillespie, his wife Inge and her two daughters Kristina Younger and Jaime Hatfield as well as Kristina’s son Jaylen Younger.
Becky Sue Akers and her son, Aaron Akers. Aaron’s older brother, Erik Akers, preceded Geneva in death, and is survived by his two children Emily and Tyler Akers.
Ronald Lee Gillespie, and his wife Mary along with their children Amanda Morris, her husband Richard and son Oliver, and Laura Gillespie and her son Reagan Garlow.
Peggy Gillespie Mized, and her Husband Lutfi Mized and son Sami Lutfi Mized and his wife Mascha Leone Mized.
And the youngest child, Sean Troy Gillespie.
