Tribute to Elsa Sotelliza Maddox
Elsa Sotelliza Maddox, born on August 18, 1942, in Alcantara, Cebu, Philippines, lived a life filled with
love, joy, and meaningful connections. She was the beloved daughter of Liberato Sotelliza and Valaria
Batucan Sotelliza, both of whom have passed. Elsa was a cherished sister among five siblings: Aurora,
Lilia Stigall, Arnold Sotelliza, Rebecca Chang (Rodney), and Wilfredo Sotelliza (Gina).
Elsa’s journey brought her to Angeles City, Philippines, where she met the love of her life, James E.
Maddox, Jr. Their 52 years of marriage were a testament to their deep bond, enduring until James’s
passing in 2016. Together, they built a beautiful family, welcoming four children: Jeffries Sotelliza, Wendy
Maddox Triche (Ellery), James Maddox III (Angela), and Toni Maddox (Charlton). Elsa’s love and guidance
extended to her nine grandchildren: Jecile Sotelliza, Jessamae Sotelliza, Charisse Kinslow (Eric),
Monique Wright (Bryan), James Maddox IV (Shyonna), Jordan Maddox, Jaden Maddox (Mary),
Mitchell Wright (Vanessa), and Talia Wright. Her legacy further blossomed with seven great-grandchildren in the United
States—Khali, Karter, London, Elliana, Oliver, Quinn, Tatum—and five great-grandchildren in the
Philippines.
Elsa was a vibrant and fun-loving soul who brought warmth and joy to everyone she met. Her passion for
cooking was only matched by her love for hosting gatherings filled with laughter, good food, and a cold
beer. Elsa’s lively spirit shone through her love for playing cards, bingo, mahjong, and dominoes. Her
greatest joy came from spending quality time with her grandchildren, who she adored deeply.
Throughout her life, Elsa traveled to many countries, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she
encountered. She had a unique gift for building lasting relationships and kept in touch with friends and
loved ones across the globe. Elsa’s generosity, kindness, and infectious enthusiasm made her a beloved
figure in every community she touched.
As we remember Elsa, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, adventure, and cherished memories. Her
legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will continue to honor her memory by living life
to the fullest, just as she did.
Rest in peace, Elsa Sotelliza Maddox. Your light will continue to shine brightly in the lives of those you
touched
