A funeral mass will be held at 10:30am at Our Saviour’s Catholic Church on Friday March 19, 2021. A reflection and slide show will start at 10:00am to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, Dicie requested to have friends and family donate directly to her granddaughter, Gabrielle Annette Sherwin, who was born with CHARGE Syndrome on November 28, 2010. In honor of Dicie, checks can be made out to Gabrielle Sherwin, and mailed in care of John and Denise Sherwin to 110 Esther Drive, Cocoa Beach, FL 32931.

Dicie Annette Sherwin
December 4, 1930 – March 13, 2021

Dicie Annette Sherwin passed away peacefully at her home in Cocoa Beach, FL on Saturday March 13, 2021 surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was known by all as a strong, loyal, smart, generous, and humble mother of 4 and grandmother of 13.

Dicie was born in Cool Ridge, WV in 1930. She was the second of six children. She graduated from nearby Shady Springs High School in 1948. She went on to the University of Virginia where she studied nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1952. She was commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the Air Force and was stationed at Patrick Air Force Base from 1953 – 1957 where she met Charles Bennett Sherwin, Sr.

On April 30, 1960 Dicie and Charles were the first couple ever to be married at Our Savior’s Catholic Church where she was a parishioner for the rest of her life. They settled in a beautiful home in Cocoa Beach where they welcomed four children Charles Bennett Sherwin Jr., John Robert Sherwin, Sharron Susan Seymour, and Dawn Sherwin McHenry.

Dicie worked as a medical surgical night shift nurse at the Cape Canaveral Hospital for 25 years and retired in 1992. She also enjoyed growing herbs and vegetables in her garden to compliment her love of cooking for her family.

Dicie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Sherwin Sr., her parents Dennis Boyd and Lakie Isabel Griffith, and her brother James Boyd and wife Marlene Griffith. She is survived by her brother Dennis Russell and wife Mary Griffith, sister Mary Margaret Crew, sister Lakie Isobel and husband Harold Bunn, sister Carolyn Lynn and husband William Eckard and her four children and fourteen grandchildren.
